Doing politics differently: Hundreds of Leipzig residents set out their demands for the state elections with direct Left Party candidate Nam Duy Nguyen
Leipzig, 19. June 2024
On June 22 from 3 to 5 p.m., the Left Party will be holding a large district meeting in the Kupfersaal in Leipzig’s city center. The young state parliament candidate Nam Duy Nguyen has issued an open invitation and wants to use a new format to discuss his campaign issues with citizens.
There is a lot at stake in this year’s state elections in Saxony. There is a real danger that various established parties will no longer make it into the state parliament, including the Left Party. Instead, the AfD is gaining votes.
Nam Duy Nguyen and his team have set themselves the goal of winning a direct mandate in the Leipzig Center-East constituency and thus elevating the district’s demands to the state parliament.
Nguyen is in his late 20s, was born in Riesa and is the child of Vietnamese contract workers. He started preparing for the election campaign in February with over 100 supporters and is breaking new ground. “Far too often, politicians are aloof and have no idea what really concerns people in their districts. I know what it’s like to live in poor conditions and when nobody listens to you – and that’s where our project comes in,” says Nguyen.
Since mid-April, volunteer Linke supporters have been holding door-to-door talks with residents of the constituency. They are collecting topics and concerns that will then be voted on at the district assembly. “We don’t want to do politics for the people; we want to do politics with the people,” explains Nguyen.
