Incorrect heating bills on the rise – The Left Party wants to check people’s bills free of charge
Leipzig, 20. December 2024
Rising rents and prices are increasingly becoming an unreasonable burden for many people. For this reason, Die Linke Leipzig would like to check heating bills free of charge. According to the party, around 20 percent of these bills contain errors that allow tenants to receive a flat-rate refund of 15 percent of the costs.
“We are providing Leipzig residents with concrete support in enforcing their rights and recovering overpaid costs”, explains Nam Duy Nguyen, member of the state parliament for the Left Party in Saxony. “The legal situation is clear: tenants have a clear right to a refund of 15 percent of the costs for heating and hot water in the event of incorrect billing.”
Experience from other cities such as Munich and Stuttgart shows that four-figure refunds are not uncommon. Even if lower sums are expected in Leipzig, Die Linke assumes that the repayments will nevertheless mean noticeable relief for many households – especially in view of the rising cost of living.
Tenants can easily upload their heating bill on the website www.heizkostencheck.app or send it by email to heizkosten@die-linke.de. Within a short time, Die Linke Mitte-Ost will check whether a claim exists and in what amount. It also provides a standardized sample letter that only needs to be sent to the landlord.
The campaign will run until the general election and is open to everyone in Leipzig. In addition, Nam Duy Nguyen invites you to his social consultation hour every Friday at 3 pm in the Liebknecht-Haus, Braustraße 15. Here, citizens can receive support on issues such as rent problems, work conflicts or letters from the authorities.
“Our aim is to help people in a tangible way and to support them during a difficult time”, concludes Nguyen.
